Mister Donut, Surabaya

Mister Donut is often said to be Japan-origin, but in fact it is actually originated from Boston. After Jakarta, Surabaya finally became the second city in Indonesia to have Mister Donut. I was not surprised to see people forming long queue in front of Mister Donut shop in Ciputra World as it was only a few weeks past the grand opening day when I came.

What differentiates Mister Donut from its competitors (J.Co, Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme) is that the donut does not only come in normal ring shape, but also other variations like mochido, cake, French cruller, etc.

1/2 Dozen Donut - IDR45,000
I bought half a dozen donut which consisted of 2 mochido, old fashion, French cruller, cake, and shell donuts. The mochido had a texture like mochi, so it tasted chewy, like eating mochi and donut together. Their French cruller is covered with chocolate and filled with whipped cream. The old fashion donut is half-covered in coating and it tasted like biscuit. I had never tried original French cruller before, so I had no idea how this variant was supposed to taste like. For the donut cake, I had the red velvet flavor with cream and nut topping. It tasted like sponge cake with red coloring, but the taste was nowhere like red velvet. As for the shell, it is just like round-shaped donut with fillings. Oh ya, with I also tried the hot cappuccino, which was not bad. I personally feel that Mister Donut's version is more airy and less sweet compared to J.Co.

Overall, Mister Donut offers high quality donuts that come in wide selection of flavor and shape with reasonable price. If you buy it per piece, it will cost IDR8,500. I will be back to try the other variants.
