NOM Bistro & Bakery, Singapore
One day, I brought my friend to NOM (which stands for 'No Other Meaning') after reading many positive reviews about their rainbow cake. This cafe is located relatively close to my school, reachable within a few bus stops ride. Hmm, actually from the nearest bus stop we still needed to walk along the park connector to Macpherson Community Club, the building where this cafe is located.
The scenery en route to the cafe was quite pretty so I took a pic. It is also something I rarely see in Indo haha. And yes, I went to school like this (so sloppy right?), judge me as you like lol.
Truffle Fries - $9.90
The asymmetric shape of the bowl made it look unique, too unique until the fries kept falling from the bowl. The fries was crispy but the truffle taste was too subtle and unevenly spread.
Hawaiian Pizza - $15.90
It was stated in the menu that the pizza should measure an approximately A4 size (like paper eh haha). I like how they were generous with the cheese. The sourish flavor from the pineapple made the overall taste unique. It is a thin-crust type of pizza by the way. Forget about using cutlery, just use your bare hands!
Salted Caramel Peanut Chocolate Cake - $8.90
The combination of salted caramel, nutty and chocolatey taste was simply lovely.
Cookies & Cream Rainbow Cake - $8.90
For those who are not aware, rainbow cake is what NOM famous for! They have many variations of rainbow cake, namely salted caramel, chocolate ganache and cookies & cream rainbow cake. The texture of the cake was moist and dense, but I think it was just mediocre at best, nothing spectacular. In case you are wondering if every layer has different flavor, let me tell you, every layer tastes the same.
Overall, NOM is a cool chilling place after quite a long walk under the sun. From its ambiance, NOM seems like a suitable place for family or friends to gather rather than hipster cafe. There are no GST and service charge, and for a decent food quality in the neighborhood, NOM is definitely worth a visit. Their rainbow cake is also not to be missed here, since rainbow cake could hardly fail to make you happy, no?
