Random Eats: April - June 2019
Item: Roasted Chicken & Char Siew Rice - $5.80
Location: Kopitiam (VivoCity, Singapore)
I chose the combination of roasted chicken and char siew. The meats were drenched in brown soy sauce. The boneless meats were tender and succulent, complemented with the sweet-salty flavor from the sauce.
Item: Roasted Chicken Rice - $4.50
Location: Kopitiam (Plaza Singapura, Singapore)
I think the chicken was too boney and the meat was a bit dry. But the Hainanese rice was flavorful and bursting with aroma, albeit slightly oily.
Item: Dumpling Ban Mian - $4.50
Location: Kopitiam (Novena Square, Singapore)
The dumplings were plump and juicy. The soup tasted just like typical ban mian soup and it contained generous minced meat and egg inside.
Item: Skinny Truffle Fries - $15
Location: Drinks & Co. Kitchen (Lorong Mambong, Singapore)
Not all fries were infused with truffle oil, so it was kinda disappointing. For $15, I think it is a bit pricey although the serving is indeed hearty.
Item: Brown Sugar Pearl Fresh Milk - $3.80 (medium size)
Location: LiHo (Square 2, Singapore)
It was my first try of brown sugar fresh milk, thus I did not have any benchmark. LiHo's version was not bad - it had distinct caramel flavor and fragrance. The pearls were chewy and blended well with creamy cold fresh milk. Since it was my first time and I got paranoid that it would be super sweet, I requested for 50% sugar level. Just remember to shake the drink for at least 8 times before poking your straw in, and you will get the best blend of pearls, brown sugar and fresh milk.
Item: Brown Sugar Boba Milk with Cream Mousse - $5.30
Location: Tiger Sugar (Chinatown Point, Singapore)
Finally tried the highly-raved Tiger Sugar! I waited 20 minutes for a cup of brown sugar fresh milk, but it was worth it. The drink was creamy, smooth and milky. Surprisingly, it was not as sweet as I had initially expected (coz some of my friends told me it was too sweet for them). The key for maximum enjoyment is to shake 15 times before drinking. It really lives up to the hype with its distinct caramelized brown sugar taste. The amount of brown sugar inside was just right. The bobas were of good consistency and chewiness. The cream mousse added a richer texture to the drink without being jelat.

Item: Chipster Sour Cream & Onion
Origin: Singapore
I like that this snack really has the sour cream flavor, not just tastes like onion powder. It has a solid balance of saltiness, tangy-ness and crispiness. It's good to indulge in MSG goodness once in a while haha.
Item: Hobnob's Nibble Milk Chocolate
Origin: United Kingdom
The milk chocolate biscuit balls were a good size to nibble on. They were crunchy and the chocolate coating was in perfect amount so you would not feel jelat.
Item: Tohato Ninja Fuwaru Salty Chips - $1.90
Origin: Japan
This Ninja snack is made of rice flour and it has a unique shape. At first it tasted like seafood but then a buttery aftertaste appeared, which I liked.
Item: Sweet Corn Soup - IDR60,000
Location: Mr. Fox (Tunjungan Plaza 5, Surabaya)
It contains chicken bits and mollica crumbs topping. I personally found this soup too milky for my preference. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with the amount of chicken inside.
Item: Chicken Ramen Hajime - IDR43,000
Location: Hajime Ramen Express (Tunjungan Plaza 3, Surabaya)
For halal ramen, I think it was not bad; a safe option if you want light-flavored ramen. The soup was flavorful and the ramen noodle was firm.

Item: Aglio Olio Spaghetti with Black Batter Fish - IDR70,000
Location: Briosse Kitchen & Coffee (Galaxy Mall 3, Surabaya)
Item: Brown Sugar Fresh Milk + Bubble - IDR29,000 (small size)
Location: KOI The (Galaxy Mall 3, Surabaya)
I had high expectation for KOI but sorry to say, their brown sugar fresh milk was horrible. It tasted like 'cendol' for me (in other term, it tasted like gula melaka milk). Just stick to KOI's milk tea and skip their brown sugar series.
Item: Kopi Milo - IDR14,000
Location: Kopi Kajo (Jl. Dharmawangsa, Surabaya)
The combination of coffee and Milo unfortunately turned out weird for me. The result was confusing as both elements were weak in taste.
Item: Brown Sugar Fresh Milk + Bubble - IDR30,000 (large size)
Location: Chatime (Transmart Rungkut, Surabaya)
I can declare that Chatime has the best Brown Sugar Fresh Milk in Surabaya (since we don't have Tiger Sugar or similar imported bubble tea brands here). The pearls were tender and every slurp was doused with brown sugar goodness. The milk taste is not too strong, so it suits non-milk lovers as well.
Item: Kentang Goreng - IDR17,000
Location: Tong Tji Tea House (Transmart Rungkut, Surabaya)
Frozen fries that could do better with some salt. It was quite soggy too when served.
Item: Mendoan - IDR17,000
Location: Tong Tji Tea House (Transmart Rungkut, Surabaya)
Just normal tempe fritters with soy sauce. The serving size was satisfying though.
Item: Iced Latte - IDR15,000
Location: Kaffete (Transmart Rungkut, Surabaya)
It is like the watered down version of iced latte. IDR15,000 is not expensive indeed, but I still expected more from it.
Location: Briosse Kitchen & Coffee (Galaxy Mall 3, Surabaya)
It was my first time trying out charcoal-battered fish. Sadly, the charcoal taste was not distinctive enough. The texture of the fish fillet was slightly rubbery, but strangely, I loved it. The aglio olio pasta itself was aromatic and garlicky.
