[Closed] Patbingsoo 팥빙수 + Warung Mami, Bali

Today I had a catch-up session in Samasta with my junior high school friends who happened to stay in Bali too. One of my friends wanted to eat seafood and she suggested having lunch at Warung Mami, but the place only opened after 11am. While waiting, we had some desserts first at Patbingsoo, a famous bingsoo place from Jakarta that had opened its first Bali outlet in Samasta. Funny how we had desserts before lunch lol.

Bibim Patbingsoo - IDR48,000
We had a hard time choosing which bingsoo to get, and after some times we then settled for Bibim Patbingsoo which consisted of fruits, jelly, pat (red beans), strawberry sauce and vanilla ice cream. The plating is purposely made to look like bibimbap (Korean mixed rice), how unique ya! Egg yolk made of peach, egg white made of vanilla ice cream, meat made of pat (red beans), veggies made of kiwis, what else? There were also jellies, strawberries and nata de coco. Strawberry sauce was served separately to pour over the bingsoo. It tasted very fresh and flavorful. Yummy!

Gangnam Patbingsoo - IDR35,000
Most bingsoo(s) here are named after subway stations in Seoul, so do not be surprised to see Dongdaemun, Anguk, Sinchon, and so on in the menu. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of this Gangnam Patbingsoo. The caramel popcorn was soggy and the overall dish was too sweet.

Chungmuro Patbingsoo - IDR35,000
Being an avid matcha lover, I did not miss this bingsoo. It came with condensed milk on the side. The matcha flavor was not too strong or weak either, just the way I liked it.

In general, Patbingsoon is a good place for youngsters, especially K-popers, to gather over some casual Korean food and bingsoo. I will visit Patbingsoo again when I have bingsoo craving (since there are not many bingsoo places in Indo, unlike in Singapore).

After our bingsoo session, we moved to Warung Mami, a humble streetside warung in Jimbaran. This place serves seafood as its main dish, all freshly-grilled to order. There is no menu book here as they only have fish, clams and prawns. Just a reminder, Warung Mami is famous among the locals so the place is always packed at all times. It is no lie, because not long after us, customers kept coming in non-stop. We were lucky enough to be the first customers to come when they opened at 12pm!

Our condiments came before the seafood and they were all complimentary. We also got a serving of sauteed veggie (watercress) which was slightly spicy but yummy. I love the garlicky taste in this veggie. Of course when you are eating Indonesian food in Bali, you cannot escape the presence of sambal matah haha! There were also sambal terasi, sambal kecap, fried garlic and Balinese style salad made of tomato and cucumber with a pinch of salt.

Love love love this! I could eat the whole portion by myself if I were thick-skinned enough in front of my friends haha. The clam meat was fresh and soft. It was super addictive with similar seasoning used for the prawn and fish.

Not a fan of prawn, I only took a piece of the grilled prawn. The prawn looked big and it tasted quite nice as well.

Two kinds of fish were available that day: kakap (snapper) and kurisi (palefin threadfin bream). We chose the latter as we had never tried it before, and the owner of the warung told us that kurisi fish had softer meat compared to snapper. The seasoning was spicy (basically everything here is spicy haha) but the spiciness was still mild enough to me. The grilled kurisi fish was good indeed - it was soft and meaty.

We spent a total of IDR180,000 for 3 people, which included 3 kinds of seafood, veggie, 3 plates of rice and 3 drinks, so each of us only paid IDR60,000. Wow, that is a considerably cheap amount for seafood! It is probably the cheapest fresh seafood I have ever eaten (sorry, D'Cost is not counted).

When you are hungry but Instagram and Snapchat comes first haha

Warung Mami is a good (and even better) alternative to Jimbaran Beach seafood minus the beach view. For those planning a trip to Bali, make sure to include this place in your itinerary. Another reminder, it takes around 30-45 minutes (depends on crowd) for our seafood to be prepared, so this place might not be the right choice when you need immediate tummy filler.
