[Closed] Nanny's Pavillon + [Re-branded] Black Canyon Coffee, Surabaya

Nanny's Pavillon is a renowned pancake parlour in Indonesia, having several branches in Bandung, Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and even Kuala Lumpur. What makes them different from their competitors is that every branch has different theme: bathroom, barnyard, library and sewing room for instances. In Surabaya, they bring in a marketplace concept. With decorations like wooden carts and fruits and vegetables stalls, you will feel like you are in a traditional French market.

Iced Tea - IDR19,000
Too bad it was not refillable.

Lemon Iced Tea - IDR25,000
The lemon tea was refreshing and it was not too sour. I love it!

Blueberry Lemonade - IDR35,000
I was up for something refreshing and sour, thus I ordered this drink. It was such an eye-opener combination, just imagine the sourness of blueberry and lemon mixed together as a drink!

Ella's Cajun Fries - IDR39,000
Hey there, it is my name haha! Frankly speaking, I prefer shoestring to thick-cut fries. Nonetheless, I like the cajun seasoning. It was flavorful and not too spicy.

Nanny's Chicken Salad - IDR55,000
Another name for Caesar salad. It comes with romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, croutons, Caesar dressing, and grilled chicken. The chicken was tender but it was rather dry, but the yummy Caesar dressing made up for it.

Bryce's Chicken Baked Rice - IDR55,000
Baked rice is Nanny's Pavillon's specialty savory food. The rice was baked with generous cheese and topped with chicken meat. Although the cheese was abundant, it would not make you sick of it. The chicken was tender and perfectly grilled.

Kerman's Beef Baked Rice - IDR65,000
Similar to chicken baked rice with beef meatballs substituting the chicken meat.

Ynez's Blueberry Cheese Roll Pancake - IDR55,000
The pancakes were thick and fluffy, the sourness of the blueberry blended well with the cream cheese and the sweetness from the ice cream. It was worth ordering! I never expected this dish to be very filling, unlike most pancake dishes I had tried before.

It was a pleasant experience at Nanny's Pavillon. The service was warm and friendly, the food was yummy as well. I hope to try their other branches in other cities soon.

After dinner, we moved to Black Canyon Coffee to sit and chat. Black Canyon Coffee is a chain from Thailand, and as the name suggests it specializes in coffee. You can say it is like the Thai version of Starbucks. BCC has been around in town for several years, but it was only my first time trying it *shame on me*.

Left: Thai Tea Frappe - IDR36,364
Since it is a Thai coffee shop, I thought the Thai tea frappe would fare nicely. I was wrong! The frappe was bland with almost no hint of cha yen. I enjoyed the whipped cream more than the drink. Such irony.

Right: Matcha Green Tea Frappe - IDR38,961
Same judgment goes to the green tea frappe. All I tasted was just ice, blah.

Overall, BCC's frappe failed to impress with the quality and taste. I would rather stick to Starbucks or at least The Coffee Bean for frappes, although they are slightly more expensive.

*UPDATE: Black Canyon Coffee has now been re-branded as 'Light Cafe & Eatery'
