Random Eats: July - September 2014

Item: O-Matcha Soft Ice Cream - $4.80
Location: Tsujiri Tea House (313@Somerset, Singapore)
The staff asked me if I wanted to have the ice cream with cone or cup. I chose cup as it was more convenient. The ice cream itself was soft, the matcha flavor was not too bitter yet very flavorful. It tasted authentic and very Japanese, although I never tried the one in Japan before.

Item: The Works - $20.50 (full round)
Location: Max Brenner Chocolate Bar (Esplanade Mall, Singapore)
It is a huge round of pizza with double chocolate melting chunks, hazelnut bits, bananas, roasted marshmallows and peanut butter. The toppings were of generous amount. The chocolate and peanut butter spread were heavenly sinful. OMG I was about to die!

Item: Kasespatzle - $21
Location: Brotzeit (VivoCity, Singapore)
It was my first time trying spätzle, traditional German noodle made of egg. The spätzle was laden with cheese and cream. I enjoyed my first few bites, but I eventually felt jelat afterwards. I think it would be better if the portion is smaller like appetizer or side dish.

Item: Cookies & Cream. Raspberry Sorbet & Mango Sorbet - $5.90 (single scoop each)
Location: Haagen-Dazs (VivoCity, Singapore)
As a fruit person, my friend chose 2 kinds of sorbet while I chose cookies & cream. The cookies & cream was very rich in vanilla flavor and had generous cookie crumbs inside. The mango sorbet tasted like perfume to me lol. The raspberry sorbet was fresh and a bit sour.

Item: Bulgogi Chicken Set - $4.60
Location: Dong Dae Mun (AMK Hub, Singapore)
Dong Dae Mun is like Korean version of Old Chang Kee. It was my first time trying Dong Dae Mun's rice set, as usually I would just have their snacks. Upon ordering, they heated up the chicken stick and took the meat out of the skewer. The sauce tasted sweet and salty. The meat itself was okay, nothing really special.

Item: Char Siew Wonton Noodle - $3.50
Location: Foodfare (AMK Hub, Singapore)
The bowl of noodle comes with slices of lean char siew and boiled wonton. The noodle is the springy type, tossed in light dark sauce and served with soup.

Item: Braised Duck Rice - $3.80
Location: Foodfare (AMK Hub, Singapore)
At the price of only $3.80, I got a plate of rice, braised duck,  beancurd, half egg, and a bowl of soup. The portion was quite big and it was fufilling. The duck was a bit boney, but the amount of duck meat given was generous. I like the gravy, it was thick and tasty.

Item: Wantan Noodle - $5.90
Location: Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert (AMK Hub, Singapore)
You can choose your noodle to be served dry or soupy. I chose wantan noodle soup. Inside my bowl were 4 pieces of wantan. The wantans were juicy and flavorful, while the noodle was springy. But overall, it was not a filling dish haha.

Item: Iced Milk Tea - $2.90 (medium size)
Location: MOS Burger (AMK Hub, Singapore)
I love the milk tea at MOS Burger. It is actually just iced lemon tea with separated packet creamer, allowing you to decide how much milk you want in your milk tea by pouring in the appropriate amount.

Item: Cheeseburger - $2.10
Location: MOS Burger (AMK Hub, Singapore)
This price is for ala carte menu. You can always make it to set menu for additional few bucks, which comes with fries and choices of drink. My cheeseburger was average only. The beef patty was juicy, and the burger bun was soft. However, what I dislike about MOS Burger is that their burger comes in a small size, smaller compared to its competitors, so it was not really filling.

Item: Fish Burger Set - $7.50
Location: MOS Burger (AMK Hub, Singapore)
MOS Burger's fish burger has nice, tangy tartar sauce with onion bits in it. The fish fillet gives no greasy aftertaste too. I like it much more than Mac's fish burger.

Item: Bacon Ranch Quesadillas
Location: Chili's (Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore)
It is tortilla with grilled chicken breast, smoked bacon, mixed cheese and ranch dressing, served with sour cream, pico de gallo, citrus-chile rice and black beans. I mean, what could go wrong with cheese, bacon and chicken wrapped up in tortilla?

Item: Har Cheong Gai Burger - $8.90
Location: EwF by Everything with Fries (Orchard Central, Singapore)
The chicken was super crispy and full of umami prawn paste taste. The burger might be a bit greasy but the chicken meat was succulent. The whole dish was very filling overall.

Item: Fish & Chips - $5.50
Location: 5 Star Corner Western Food (Hougang Central, Singapore)
I was recommended this Western food stall by a friend and I was spoiled by the menus. I decided to go back to the basic and order fish and chips. The dish comes with a golden battered fish, garlic bread, fries, coleslaw, baked beans and tartar sauce. The fish meat was chunky, soft and did not taste fishy. The batter was not overly thick. The fries was soggy, unfortunately. The portion was just nice and worth the money. The meat is easy on the mouth and does not have a fishy smell.

Item: Breakfast Set - $5.30
Location: Food Gallery (Changi Airport Terminal 1, Singapore)
I was walking around Changi Airport waiting for my flight back to Surabaya when I saw Killiney. I was hungry but I did not want to make myself to full since I would eat on the plane anyway, so I decided to grab some light snack at Killiney. This set consists of kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs and iced tea. The eggs were perfect, even when eaten on its own. The toast had generous amount of kaya spread but the texture was not crunchy enough. The iced tea was just normal though.

Item: Beef Noodle
Location: Kopitiam (JCube, Singapore)
The portion of braised beef given was just right. The meat was tender and flavorful. The soup, which was concentrated with beef essence, had a distinctive herb taste, which was nice.

Item: Tender Beef Rice - $4.30
Location: Food Republic (CitySquare Mall, Singapore)
The beef was so tender, well-seasoned and it tasted like a mix between Japanese beef teriyaki and Korean bulgogi. Came with sesame seeds, which added a popping sensation in your mouth while eating it. Portion wise, it was generous though. For $4, I think it is quite worth it.

Item: Grandma's Fried Rice - $9.80
Location: Grandma's (Raffles City Mall, Singapore)
The wok smell of the fried rice was fragrant. There were a few peeled prawns on top. The portion was big enough to share, but since I was famished I cleared it all lol.

Item: Strawberry Banana Smoothie - $4.50
Location: McDonald's (iFly, Singapore)
The glass size was rather small, it kinda turned me down lol. The smoothie was neither too thick nor watery. It was a nice blend between strawberry and banana, which tasted very nice. The sourness of strawberry and sweetness of banana was well-balanced. Such a perfect drink for a sunny day.

Item: Matcha McFlurry - $2.80
Location: McDonald's (iFly, Singapore)
This is a seasonal flavor. First, they put in the soft-serve vanilla ice cream inside the cup. Then, they added a generous heap of crushed Oreo. Lastly, matcha powder was sprinkled on top. I found my Matcha McFlurry very plain. I barely tasted the matcha. Instead, the vanilla flavor was overwhelming. The matcha did not blend well with the vanilla. Nonetheless, I was satisfied of the amount of matcha powder and Oreo that was put. But overall, not really impressive.

Item: Strawberry Fresh Milk - $4.50
Location: Bread Society (Suntec City Mall, Singapore)
Yes, I'm now craving for this, even though the price is tad pricey. It tasted like strawberry smoothie. The sweetness was just perfect, and I love the bottle packaging. Honestly, it is just like strawberry smoothie I use to make at home - however, seems like there is an X factor that makes me craving for it haha. Rather than milk, I found this drink is more like milkier version of smoothie. I like how the 'milk' was not overly sweet and creamy. It still had a trace of strawberry fruit flavor.

Item: Soya Milk
Location: Bread Society (Suntec City Mall, Singapore)
The soya milk is pre-packed and kept in fridge. It was quite refreshing, but a tad too sweet for my liking. It tasted quite smooth and not too sweet.

Item: Sanum - $6.50
Location: Llaollao (313@Somerset, Singapore)
It is predictable that I always order Sanum every time I visit Llaollao, told you that once I begin to like a particular thing, high chance that I will repeat the order. This time, our Sanum contained chocolate muesli crunch and candy milk drizzle, and for the 3 choices of fruit I let my friend decide, and he chose blueberry, strawberry and pomegranate. The yogurt as usual, nothing to complain about, it was perfect! My friend said my choice of crunch and sauce would get him diabetes as it was cloyingly sweet haha. I was okay with it though. I like the candy milk drizzle and complemented the yogurt really well. It was my first time eating fresh pomegranate, it tasted unique with edible seed inside.  Overall, Llaollao's Sanum is heavenly delicious, it has become my serious addiction. You gotta order this at Llaollao, I think it is more worth it than having normal cup of froyo (but then, you decide). I don't mind the queue because at the end it is all paid off.

Item: Green Tea Midi Pocky
Origin: Japan
Unlike normal Pocky, midi Pocky are those short and chubby Pocky sticks. The sticks are coated with thick green tea. Super love!

Item: Meiji Rich Matcha Biscuits - $3.50
Origin: Japan
It is an Oreo-like cookie sandwich with 51% real matcha cream in between. The cream was tasty and rich. The biscuit was no better than Oreo though - it was hard and dry.

Item: Slurpee - $1.60
Location: Singapore
If you don't know, Slurpee is a mix of ice and syrup in a form of slushies. I love drinking this on a sweltering hot day, especially at the beach haha. You can get it from almost all 7-Eleven stores in Singapore.

Item: Pokka Premium Strawberry Milk Tea - $2
Location: Singapore
Could not really detect the so-called strawberry juice inside, so it was quite a pity haha.

Item: Waffle Bowl
Location: Dairy Queen (Tunjungan Plaza 3, Surabaya)
Tonight was my first experience at this Dairy Queen location and I was extremely disappointed. I ordered a cookie dough blizzard, in a waffle cone with extra cookie dough. I was looking forward to vanilla ice cream with chunks of cookie dough, and was left with ice cream that had been blended so much it turned into chocolate with a couple bites of cookie dough.

Item: Hot Dog Chili Melt - IDR35,000
Location: Dairy Queen (Tunjungan Plaza 3, Surabaya)
Just look at that melted cheese OMG! The sauce tasted like normal Bolognese sauce, but nevertheless it was nice to pair with the sausage and cheese.

Item: Java Chip Frappuccino - IDR45,000 (tall size)
Location: Starbucks (Juanda International Airport, Surabaya)
I always order Java Chip Frappe whenever I want something both caffeinated and chocolatey. Loving those Java chip bits - definitely an all-time favorite!

Item: Terang Bulan Toblerone with Kraft Cheese - IDR70,000 (small size)
Location: Terang Bulan Hao Hao (Jl. Dharmahusada Indah Timur, Surabaya)
It was a total pleasure OMGGG (although fatty too)! The chopped Toblerone chocolate blends well with the butter and cheese - what a glorious taste. I sent these foodporn pics to my friend in SG, and he asked me did such thing ever exist lol. If a premium terang bulan stall opens in SG, will it be a hit? Haha.
