Ipig Ipig, Surakarta

Another non-Halal restaurant off the list! I had been wanted to try Ipig Ipig ever since it went viral on TikTok as a heaven for all pork lovers. This place was said to have various pork dishes in 'angkringan' style, where we can choose from the display just like how we order cai png in hawkers.

Es Teh Manis - IDR3,000
Enough said lol.

Nasi Campur - IDR25,000
The Chinese-style nasi campur featured siobak, char siew, lapchiong, and braised egg, plated with white rice and served with a side of clear salted vegetables soup. Everything on the plate had their own hits and misses, but my favorite one was the char siew. It was sweet on the outside and well-marinated.

Left: Siobak - IDR25,000
I got shocked with how salty the siobak turned out. The roasted pork actually had a nice crackling, but it was heavily seasoned with salt, leaving no space for any underlying flavor to shine. I ended up leaving almost half the dish untouched, realizing that my health could be under threat with that excessive consumption of salt (and fat).

Right: Samcan Goreng Bawang - IDR25,000
It was also unmemorable — again, the issue was the overly salty taste of the protein.

Frankly speaking, the food here did not stand out. But its affordability coupled with the wide variety of menu are sufficient for me to give it a second chance. If you want to have pocket friendly food that comes with generous serving and variety, Ipig Ipig can be one of your choices.
