Swee Choon Tim Sum 瑞春点心餐厅, Singapore

This time my cell-group held a fellowship dinner at Swee Choon Tim Sum. The place is located on Jalan Besar, reachable within a short bus ride from Bugis and Little India MRT. It opens from 6pm to 6am, so you know where to go for supper!

I had read many reviews about Swee Choon - it's famous for its affordable and delicious dim sum, but I never expected the place would be that wide. The space is divided into indoor and outdoor areas. In front of the main entrance, there is a queue machine with estimated waiting time shown on it. As we were coming in a group of 11, it took a little long for us to get a table. The machine will dispense a receipt with your queue number printed on it. When your table is ready, your queue number will be displayed on a flat screen. Oh ya, besides dim sum, they also serve cooked food and dessert.

Lemon Tea - $1.80
It is just canned lemon tea lol.

Above: Bean Paste Pau - $1.40 (2 pcs)
It fared nicely. Nothing went wrong with this.

Below: Siew Mai - $1.80 (2pcs)
It was delicious, meaty and firm.

Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun - $3.60 (3 pcs)
It is a must order! The custard was so delightful, neither too thick nor too watery. It oozed out of the bun perfectly, perfect for my Snapchat moment. The salted egg custard inside was very flavorful, leaving a nice aftertaste that made me crave for more.

Shanghai Xiao Long Bao - $4 (4 pcs)
Th skin was quite thick, making the dumpling less fragile. The minced meat filling was nicely marinated and the soup encased in the dumpling was heavenly tasty.

Prawn & Banana Fritter - $2.80 (2 pcs)
My friend said this was a must-try dish here and I was like, "whut?! Banana and prawn, you kidding bro?!". I was persuaded to try, and it turned out not bad. There was a unique sensation between savory and sweetness bursting in my mouth, although the banana dominated more to the whole flavor.

Portugese Egg Tart - $3 (2 pcs)
This was average. I still prefer KFC's $1 egg tart haha.

There were some other menus that I tried but did not manage to take personal pics of them:
Spring Roll - $2 (2 pcs)
Nothing special about this dish. It tasted a little bit bland.

Swee Choon Mee-Suah Kueh - $2 (2 pcs)
This mee-suah kueh, which is rice vermicelli fried to crisp, kinda reminds me of Indonesian martabak mie. The outer part was crispy, but when I bit it, I could feel the softness of the mee sua straight away.

Char Siew Pau - $1.60 (2 pcs)
This was so so.

Steamed Pork Ribs - $2.50
The yam slices in the steamed pork ribs were too many as I easily mistook it as meat lol.

Century Egg Porridge - $2.50
Meanwhile, the porridge might look small in portion, but it was actually filling. The taste was rather bland, so I added some pepper to lift up the taste.

Overall, Swee Choon is an ideal spot for supper or after party sesh. The turnover rate is high and service is generally quick, but it is better to avoid busy hours like around 6pm, unless you are prepared to queue 30 minutes for a seat. We spent a total of $120 for 11 people including GST, so one person only needed to pay less than $11. Here, the wet tissue is chargable at 20cents, but you can return back to the staff if you don't use it - it will not be calculated in your bill anyway.
