If you want some quality bonding time with your family or cliques without being in outdoors, board game cafe is an ideal place. There are some board game cafes in Surabaya, but none seems to be as dedicated as The Vault in Marvell City Mall. This place lets you have fun as a group and be ready to get overwhelmed by the huge inventory of game here. The 'game masters' are around to explain how each game works, so don't hesitate to ask them for help.

The Vault provides a laid-back environment to chill while playing a variety of board games. The board games offered here are fresh - if you think of perennial favorites like Snakes and Ladders or UNO Stacko, you will find none of them here (except you bring your own). Some games look a little complicated and tedious though, so if you just want to relax, opt for the simple ones. Btw, their gaming rate is IDR30,000 (weekdays) and IDR40,000 (weekends) for the first 2 hours, plus extra IDR10,000 for every subsequent hour. Food are drinks are all sold ala carte and are not included in the gaming rate.

To be very honest, I did not play anything here as my companion and I just wanted to have lunch. We agreed that things might get boring if only 2 people playing - thus, we owe another visit to The Vault to play in group haha.

Granny's Peach Tea - IDR18,000
The drink was refreshing with 2 slices of peach inside. The serving was pretty generous too.

Lemon Bond Tea - IDR16,000

Normal iced shaken lemon tea which I thought was a little bit too sweet.

You can put your drink here so it will not bother your gaming session. Brilliant!

Beef Rendang - IDR32,000
The beef slices were tender. The gravy was quite flavorful and it complemented the meat well.

Salted Egg Chicken - IDR35,000
Strangely enough, the dish was served with kerupuk (which I found a bit off-track). The bite-sized chicken pieces were thickly-battered that I could not really taste the meat. The salted egg coating was pretty enjoyable but lacked the oomph.

The Vault, Surabaya Overall, the food and drinks served here are average in both taste and price. However, it really does not matter when you come here to play. Again, it is recommended that you go in groups to maximize your gaming experience. The Vault is a place that you and your group should definitely check out if you are bored of the mundane shopping mall and cafe chill-out seshs.
