Pukul Satu Kopi, Surabaya

The emergence of Japan-style coffee kiosk in Surabaya is now getting unstoppable with more and more places opening up. Recently, I found a new hole-in-the-wall coffee kiosk near my place called Pukul Satu Kopi (literally means 'one o'clock coffee'). PSK is situated on Jl. Dharmawangsa, between satay warung and barber shop. Despite the tiny space, PSK actually stands out among the row of warungs, car showrooms and photocopy centres, so it is almost impossible not to stop and look.

The inside is very crampy - to me, it ideally can fit no more than 15 people, unless you want to feel claustrophobic. Outside seating includes two high chairs by the counter and a few chairs to sit on the pavement.

Kopi Susu PSK - IDR15,000
Since they operate like a coffee stand, all drinks here are served in take-away cups. I got what I expected: sufficiently bold coffee without much acidity but with the right milkiness.

Susu Regal - IDR15,000
This is a blend of fresh milk and Marie Regal biscuit. Although it tasted great, it is something I can easily prepare at home at half of the drink's price.

Overall, if you are on a hunt of affordable yet good kopi susu, PSK should be a place in mind. There are only 4 kinds of drink (you will not find vanilla latte or chocolate frappe here), but this kind of simplicity shows that they really put care into the coffee itself. I would recommend to just get your coffee-to-go, as seating is not an easy thing here and the store size is not really what you would call spacious.
