Astons Specialities, Singapore

Astons has always been my favorite place to go for decent Western food at humble prices. Here, we are required to order and pay upfront before the staff usher us to our seat. It is quite efficient, since most of the time this restaurant is packed with patrons. By the time you reach the counter you should already decide what to order, so that people behind you will not have to wait too long.

Iced Chocolate - $3.50
It tasted like instant Cadbury chocolate with additional whipped cream and chocolate powder. Somehow I found it addictive haha. Priced at only $3.50, Astons' iced chocolate has been my repeated order in every visit.

Cream of Mushroom - $3.80
If you order spaghetti, soup of the day will be included in the price. Sadly, the mushroom soup tasted like canned food, but the mushroom chunks inside were generous.

Spicy Chicken Spaghetti - $8.90
I think they should change the name, since this dish is not spicy at all. I'm a non-spicy food eater, but I can safely acknowledge that the spaghetti is not spicy.

Chargrilled Chicken with Mac n Cheese & French Fries - $10.90
Introducing my most favorite menu at Astons Specialities! The chicken was marinated and grilled to perfection with nice smokey aroma and delicious mushroom sauce. The meat was tender and juicy without being too oily. The best part about Astons is that we get to choose 2 sides along with the main dish. Their mac n cheese is to die for - having this as a side is a must for me!

Hickory BBQ Chicken with Mac n Cheese & French Fries - $10.90
It is almost similar to chargrilled chicken with BBQ sauce substituting mushroom sauce. The chicken was as good but the BBQ sauce was too tangy for my liking.

Lemon Lime Chicken with Mac n Cheese & Onion Rings - $10.90
Again, the chicken is identical to two menus mentioned above, with the addition of zesty lemon lime sauce on top. This is my second most favorite menu. The lemon lime sauce was refreshing but the onion ring was a major disappointment since it was soggy.

Crispy Fried Chicken with Tasty Rice & French Fries - $10.90
Mom was predictable, she picked the safest option haha. But rice plus fries? Hmm, not a very good combination haha (sorry mom). The chicken was tad oily, but the size was huge, larger than regular chicken chop (that explains why it came with ellips instead of round plate). The mayonnaise given was too little though.

I always enjoy my comfort meal at Astons, despite the fact that the price keeps increasing as time goes by (I recall the chicken menu was still $7.90 on my very first visit). The place is super noisy as a lot of teenagers come flocking this place, so I would not suggest you to go here for your first date. Due to the high popularity, a long queue during dinner time is to be expected, especially on weekends. However, it is indeed a good option if you want to have a budget meal with a group of friends.
