The Gourmet by Ranch Market, Surabaya
The Gourmet by Ranch Market is an interesting upscale supermarket where you can pick food from certain sections and have it served at the bistro. The concept is kinda similar to Habitat by Honestbee that I had been to before. Interestingly, it is a brilliant option to cut your spending on meals at Galaxy Mall (fyi this mall is known for its expensive eateries). There are meat and seafood sections which stock a wide selection of meat. They are available for purchase as retail or to be cooked and served in the bistro. What's better, there is no extra fee for this cooking service. You literally just pay for the raw meat!
Chicken Leg Garlic Mustard (110gr) - IDR22,789
Just when you know that they waive the preparation fee, you will be twice happier to know that veggies and potato wedges are also included at no cost! I picked a piece of chicken leg in garlic mustard sauce (weighed 110gr) from the poultry section, which cost IDR22,789. The taste and texture of the meat were good and I was happy with my choice. Oh ya, you can also choose one kind of sauce, of which I chose mushroom sauce. There were some mushroom bits in the sauce as well.
Pork Belly Blackpepper (230gr) - IDR93,577
The other main course that I had was the Pork Belly Blackpepper (weighed 230gr). The pork belly was cooked in blackpepper sauce until soft. Unlike the chicken, this dish was served with some baby potatoes and fried mushrooms, which were a great companion with the meat.
Eating here is a much better option to avoid expensive meal at steakhouses. I even watched a TikTok video before where a group of youngsters ordered 1kg of fries in bulk and ask the staff to cook it. It only cost around IDR70,000 for 1kg and they split it among 10 of them, so that means a person only had to pay IDR7,000 haha. You may also consume other ready-to-eat items purchased from the supermarket. This is obviously an interesting concept and they should expand the dining space for a more pleasant experience.
