De Mier Eat & Stay, Surabaya

Hey yo! Now that PPKM restrictions have been eased, I know y'all are already making plans for the weekend right? Here I would recommend you a spot to chillax: De Mier Eat & Stay. De Mier had been under the radar until I found it on IG. It is actually a B&B (sort of), but there is a cafe inside where outside guests are welcome for dine-in.

The fact that this place is also an accommodation definitely scores a charm factor. Well, you know how most hostels/hotels nowadays cater to the millenials who crave for aesthetic content? I cannot really describe the vibe here with just words but even for a local like me, you will feel like you are going on a trip outside the city.

There is plenty of open-air space here. The wide area also means the place hardly gets too noisy to have a conversation, which is lovely. It also seems like an ideal place for students and adults alike to activate their work mode on over a cuppa.

Remedy - IDR28,000
The tea brew was light-tasting but the flavor was rather flat. Perhaps the tea leaves themselves were lacking.

V60 Japanese - IDR38,000
If you like the original flavor of the coffee bean, try their V60. Done in Japanese way, the coffee was winey and aromatic.

Flat White - IDR32,000
My flat white was nothing memorable. The amount of milk was a little too much, overwhelming the ratio of coffee within.

Sampler - IDR30,000
The dish consisted of chicken strips, fries, bakso goreng and sausage. It was really addictive despite looking simple. My favorite item was the fried meatball, which had a puffy texture and savory taste. Everything was well-executed, perfect to go with the provided mayonnaise.

Macaroni Schotel - IDR25,000
It was quite filling, the texture was dense and it had generous smoked beef bits inside.

Nasi Daun Jeruk - IDR35,000
This menu consists of battered chicken chunks, fried egg and rice cooked with lime leaves. There was not much seasoning in the chicken and the overall dish was pretty bland. Perhaps I had eaten better ones, that's why its taste did not fascinate me.

Mie Ayam - IDR35,000
The noodle had a wonderful springiness but the taste was wayyyyy too salty! While you can always rely on chili sauce for the rescue, what you are gonna get most is the excessive saltiness from the noodle seasoning and chicken meat.

De Mier is definitely off to a good start at its prime location. While the food and drink offered were mainstream, it was still an enjoyable visit given the chill ambiance and breezy charm. All factors considered, the experience was alright but I was yet to be wow-ed by the food. If anything, I would recommend this place for those looking for somewhere to eat with quieter surrounding, strategic location and affordable price points.
