La Pasion, Surabaya

On a Sunday, my friend and I had planned to catch up at La Pasion. To avoid the lunch crowd in the afternoon, we headed down right when they opened at 12pm, only to find out that most tables had been reserved. Thankfully there was still one empty round table for us.

The interior of La Pasion resembles modern cafes in western cities, and since we came in December, of course the decoration looked so festive with 'snow-studded' Christmas tree and there's even gingerbread house near the entrance door.

Guava Juice - IDR39,000
Did not try this but it looked like it was straight outta blender and not watered down.

Matcha Oreo Milkshake - IDR41,000
The shake did not shine through in terms of the taste and texture. It was too icy, no intense grassy matcha notes and the whipped cream tasted weird to me.

La Pasion Beef Burger - IDR75,000
The burger consists of beef patty, Chipotle mayo, crispy kale, avocado, cheddar and fried egg, then served with potato chips. The burger was humongous, the bun was slightly burnt but the texture was still soft. Nothing much to shout about the taste though. Meanwhile, I suspected that the potato chip was 'Ch***to' (could be other similar brands), so be sure to drink lots of water.

Aglio Olio Pasta with Chicken - IDR80,000
The actual cost of the dish was IDR65,000, and chicken was added for IDR15,000. The taste was rather heavy with mild spiciness and adequate garlicky taste. The portion was big as well, therefore the dish was definitely competent for the price.

I will certainly recommend La Pasion for a good catch up with friends as this place offers not only comfort food but also a decent selection of drinks (including booze) to chill out. I also liked that the food came in decent portions, considering the food was not cheap, so it's not like you're paying a lot but leaving with half-empty stomach.
