Random Eats: July - September 2019

Item: Strawberry Squeeze - RM12.50 (original size)
Location: Boost Juice (Mitsui Outlet Park, Kuala Lumpur)
This is a mix of strawberries, banana, apple juice, strawberry yogurt and ice. Considering there was no Boost Juice in Indonesia, this was amazing. Besides good for your health, it was really refreshing too.

Item: Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies
Location: Famous Amos (Mitsui Outlet Park, Kuala Lumpur)
I'm a fan of pecan and this is one of my favorite items at Famous Amos. Both the chocolate chip and pecan nuts were well-balanced.

Item: Bang Bang Horlicks Milk Tea with Brown Sugar Pearls -RM7.90 (regular size)
Location: Tealive (Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur)
Fyi, Tealive is the 'localized' version of Chatime (due to the case of dispute between both holdings). Not really a fan of this drink coz the Horlicks was not strong enough and the drink tasted slightly diluted.

Item: Creamy Tomato Spaghettini - RM26
Location: Ben's (Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur)
My expectation was high because Ben's is very popular in Malaysia, but I got disappointed with the food. The spaghetti turned out spicy and it was not stated as 'spicy' in the menu. Anyway, the pasta was cooked al dente and the amount of beef bacon inside was generous.

Item: Cold Mocha Latte - RM13.90 (regular size)
Location: Dal.komm Coffee (Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur)
It was just an okay mocha, nothing fantastic. I actually just bought this to kill time while waiting for my friend haha.

Item: Mee Hoon - RM1
Location: IKEA Restaurant (IKEA Cheras, Kuala Lumpur)
Since this was only $1, I just grabbed it without thinking lol. It was just standard fried bee hoon with very little veggie inside. Go for it if you want some extra carbs intake.

Item: Nasi Lemak - RM5.50
Location: IKEA Restaurant (IKEA Cheras, Kuala Lumpur)
As usual, IKEA'S chicken wing was great. Rice was 'lemak' enough. The sambal was not spicy, which I fancied.

Item: Assorted Dim Sum - RM10
Location: Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur
There are a lot of stalls that sell fresh dim sum here. For RM10, you get 9 pieces of assorted dim sum. You can choose any flavor that you like. My favorites are pork and chicken siew may. The taste was just okay, but it was great for late night munch.

Item: Cold Old Town Xi Mut Milk Tea - RM4.70 (regular size)
Location: Old Town White Coffee (Menara UOA, Kuala Lumpur)
I dunno what is the difference between xi mut milk tea and regular milk tea, but the xi mut one felt more fragrant and thick.

Item: Lava Bites Butter Cookie Choco Lava
Origin: Malaysia
One of the best quality packet cookies I have ever tasted. The chocolate lava oozed out when I bit it. Overall, the cookie was sweet but not overwhelming.

Item: Siew Mai - IDR29,900
Location: Imperial Kitchen & Dim Sum (Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang)
Siew mai has always been my must-order item in a dim sum restaurant. I like it that the meat was plump and juicy here.

Item: Mie Ayam Cha Siew BBQ - IDR47,900
Location: Imperial Kitchen & Dim Sum (Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang)
The serving was big and filling. Noodle was so so but the seasoning and broth were good. The roasted chicken was served cold but I did not mind as it was tasty.

Front: Regal Frappe - IDR30,000
Back: Iced Latte - IDR25,000
Location: Vertical Coffee Bar (Sunrise Mall, Mojokerto)
The iced latte was well-pulled with a good balance between coffee and milk. The Regal frappe was so-so, I expected stronger Regal taste from it.

Item: Caramel Jelly - IDR54,500
Location: Excelso (Grand City, Surabaya)
It got too sweet sometimes but overall it was an enjoyable drink with plenty of caramel jelly inside.

Item: Babi Kriuk Salted Egg - IDR55,000
Location: Jack & John Kitchen (Galaxy Mall 3, Surabaya)
Crispy pork, bacon and salted egg sauce in one bowl is just good to handle! The pork skin was wonderfully crunchy that I could hear the crackling sound. The amount of bacon was generous as well. Superb!

Item: Pho Bo - IDR68,182
Location: Hanoi Delight (Galaxy Mall 3, Surabaya)
For such price, I think it is overpriced for food court standard. Anyway, it tasted nice albeit not that authentic. The soup was pleasingly delicate and the beef slices were tender. The herb leaves and lime added some freshness and brought the dish to another taste profile.

Item: Jasmine Green Cheese Tea with Pearl - IDR31,000
Location: Cheskee (Galaxy Mall 3, Surabaya)
The tea was served with a savory layer of cheese foam, which was silky smooth. The saltiness of the cheese balanced well with the bitter taste of the tea. One of the best cheese teas in town so far!

Item: Choco Banana Smoothie - IDR35,000
Location: Greenly (Galaxy Mall 2, Surabaya)
All flavors were well-balanced here. I could taste the chocolate and banana equally. The thickness was just right as well.

Item: Breakfast of Champions - IDR0,000
Location: Toby's Estate (Tunjungan Plaza 5, Surabaya)
This dish features almost every ingredient you would want for breakfast: brioche, hashbrown, scrambled eggs, baked beans, buttered mushrooms, beef bacon and mesclun. The serving was super hearty - even the hungry me was struggling to finish it. The scrambled egg was ultra smooth that I could slurp it up. The other elements were finely cooked too.

Item: Brown Lava Fresh Milk - IDR40,000 (large size)
Location: T4U (Marvell City, Surabaya)
The drink was quite memorable to me as the brown sugar was generous. Plus, I could detect an intense caramel note in the drink.

Item: Jielly Chick Salted Egg - IDR20,000
Location: Ayam Asix (Jl. Tegalsari, Surabaya)
Surprisingly, the chicken was not bad and it was even comparable to those global fried chicken chains like KFC and A&W. There could be less sandy texture in the salted egg sauce though.

Item: Regalo Bob - IDR24,000
Location: Kopi Yor (Plaza Surabaya, Surabaya)
It is a mix of milk, Regal biscuit, Oreo crumbs and boba blended together. Well, it was too sweet for my preference but everything with boba always worked fine with me.

Item: Tiger Pearl Milk - IDR20,000
Location: Quickly (Juanda Airport Terminal 1, Surabaya)
The brown sugar syrup tasted very much artificial, while the milk was diluted. The pearls were overly cooked too. Skip this!

Item: Aglio Olio Fettuccine - IDR33,000
Location: Libreria Eatery (Jl. Ngagel Jaya, Surabaya)
As usual, I requested for the mildly spicy version. The pasta was cooked al dente. It tasted delicious and garlicky. The amount of smoked beef given was pretty generous too.

Item: Es Bumil - IDR15,000
Location: SUB Kopi (Intiland Tower, Surabaya)
'Bumil' is apparently an abbreviation for 'buttermilk'. It tasted weird, I would not re-buy it again for sure.

Item (left): Es Susu Kenyal - IDR20,000
Item (right): Es Rumpi - IDR23,000
Location: Kopi Lain Hati (Jl. Dharmawangsa, Surabaya)
The left one is fresh milk with coffee jelly. The so-called coffee jelly tasted nothing like coffee, I felt like eating grass jelly lol. Meanwhile, the right one is fresh milk with rum and Regal biscuit. The non-alcoholic rum was pretty strong, which I liked.
