Nine House Kitchen Alfresco + Miel Society, Malang

Nine House is located just steps away from Mall Olympic Garden (MOG), and I was surprised that there were only 2 other tables when we arrived just after 11:30 on a Sunday morning. More patrons started flocking afterward though. Perhaps it was still not lunchtime yet.

As you go up to the third floor, you will find a majestic, castle-like dining area with a bar and ample seating. The place was not air conditioned, but it felt breezy when I came there (due to the cloudy weather, probably). 

Lemon Ice Tea - IDR25,000

The tea was actually refreshing but it got too sweet coz I forgot to ask them to separate the simple syrup :')

Churros - IDR45,000

Get this if you want to finish off your meal with something sweet. Shaped like hearts, the churros were rolled in an adequate amount of cinnamon-sugar, and they tasted delectably crunchy. I personally thought it would be better if chocolate or dulce de leche sauce was served on the side instead of chocolate ice cream.

To be fair, there were hits and misses but the entire experience was considered enjoyable (maybe because I was in great company and conversation haha). The fact that it was a rooftop cafe, the unique design and wide variety of dishes were enough to make it to the list of must-visit cafes in Malang. But would I return again? Probably not, as I do not see any compelling reasons to hehe.

After our stopover at Nine House, we moved to Miel Society. Another new cafe in Malang, you say? Miel Society is a fashion boutique cum cafe on Jl. Soekarno Hatta (SoeHat, as locals say). The cafe itself is located on the second and third floors of the ruko.

The outdoor area was dominated with white and gray colors plus a few plants - love the simplicity! If the weather permits, you can spot the mountain of Panderman from afar.

Miel Strawberry Milk - IDR25,000

Since the time was limited, I only had one drink to da bao, which was Korean-style strawberry milk. The strawberry puree contained real strawberry bits which paired perfectly with the fresh milk. The milkiness may come off as a little overwhelming, so for people with sweet taste-bud, you will find yourself digging it.

In a city saturated with cafes, Miel Society might get a little lost for not offering something outstanding. However, if you are merely looking for a place to grab some bites or drinks after all that shopping spree, then the cafe does the job fine.
