Samcan Goreng Epenk + Pulau Sentosa Seafood Market, Tangerang

Samcan Goreng Epenk is a casual, no-frill restaurant in Gading Serpong that specializes in samcan goreng (fried pork belly). Its menu primarily consists of pork belly rice and pork satay. I reckon spotting Samcan Epenk somewhere in Surabaya before, but sadly it had been closed down.

Nasi Samcan Matah - IDR50,000

I thought the rice was a little too much compared to the amount of meat given. The pork belly was rather on the leaner side, and I would prefer a fattier cut. Despite so, it was hard not to love the superbly crackling skin. It remained crispy even after being left some time in the air-con-ed room. The meat was served with sambal matah, whose spiciness was just right for my tolerance. It wonderfully complemented the umami taste of the meat. Yum yum!

The place was quite comfortable for group dining and service was good and quick. Food was enjoyable and their samcan is obviously to die for. Will definitely return here again!

Spanning a huge area at Alam Sutera, Pulau Sentosa Seafood Market have several tanks of live seafood displayed at the entrance of the restaurant. It also has VIP rooms for those who want to hold private gathering.

Es Teh Manis

Normal iced tea with adequate level of sweetness.

Top: Kangkung Terasi

The stems were quite soft while terasi paste tasted slightly spicy and pungent.  

Bottom: Cumi Goreng Tepung

The batter was crispy but the texture was rather rubbery, giving me a hard time chewing it.

Kepiting Telur Asin

Here comes the superstar, salted egg crab. Hell yeah! The dish was super rich in salted egg but it was not jelak. The shell was also thin and I could easily bite through to get into the white, soft crab meat. This is really a heaven crab and salted egg lovers.

Overall, it was an enjoyable dinner and I was really impressed with the crab. No wonder this place succeeds to draw crowds of people, especially at dinner time. Should I ever be back, Sentosa's salted egg crab would be the one I shall go for hehe.
