Wheeler's Yard, Singapore

If you come here without having heard of or read any reviews about Wheeler's Yard before, you may get confused - what kind of place is it? It is actually a bicycle atelier cum cafe located on a quiet alley in Balestier area (it is reachable within a short bus ride from Toa Payoh or Novena MRT). A big blue door (probably the most-seen one on Instagram, and this was what attracted me to visit this place) will welcome you as you come, but hey, it is not the entrance door - the entrance stands behind it.

Of course we did not miss the opportunity to take mandatory shot in front of this Instagram's most famous blue door. Thanks to a random stranger who gladly offered to help us taking this pic hehe.

Upon entering the cafe, I was amazed of how they had turned a warehouse into a cafe. You will see bikes everywhere, even on the table (yes, there was actually a fixie bike on my table). If you come in a small group, be ready to share a table with strangers as most tables here are communal. Do take not that self-service system is practiced here - order, payment and collection are to be done at the counter.

Cranberry & Hibiscus Sparkling Juice - $4.90
I could not taste any cranberry flavor here. It tasted like fragrant water, so weird.

Iced Mocha - $7.50
My iced mocha was lovely - it was not too robust and the chocolate flavor was distinctive. Except that it was pricey haha.

Salmon Royale - $17.90
The poached eggs were way too runny for my liking, even the egg white was also runny. They could be more generous with the smoked salmon though.

Hum Bao Bao - $23.90
The name sounds cute ya? I love the presentation, especially how they fries was served on an oil strainer haha. The beef patty was thick, but it was too dry and lacked seasoning (the patty is infused with wagyu fats by the way). Unless you are a guy, you need to come with hungry stomach to be able to finish this burger. Imagine having double thick patty plus bacon on top - that gotta be very satisfying!

Wheeler's Yard Big Breakfast - $17.90
Another filling dish! It consists of eggs any style served with thick brioche, bacon, pork sausage, sauteed potato and roasted tomato. The scrambled egg that I chose was again too runny. I did not really like the brioche, thus I only ate half of it. The rest of the elements were just okay, nothing fantastic.

Wheeler's Yard offers laid-back ambiance, very hipster I must say. The place looks Insta-worthy and visually cool too. Moreover, free and quick wi-fi is available. The food could be improved more, since I feel that their food is just average. Hmm, I guess one visit is enough?
