[Closed] Paviljoen, Surabaya

Paviljoen is a relatively new casual restaurant in Dinoyo area. It is definitely a place that your parents or grandparents will fancy, as it will trigger their nostalgic feeling. Almost everything displayed at Paviljoen has been disappearing from our current era. This is why I admire places that put an effort to preserve things that are fading.

Visiting this place was like travelling back in time. The furniture and decoration looked old-skool. It had the vibe of a 70's kind of house and somehow I could feel the slower pace of the yesteryear. What impressed me the most was the fact that they used foot pedal water faucet for the washbasin haha.

The place was not busy when we came there in lunchtime. It was a scorching afternoon and we certainly preferred to stay indoor, though I felt that the outdoor area would make a great place to chill at in the evening. The whole ambiance is relaxed, perfect for gathering with family or colleagues.

Ijs Teh Manis - IDR10,000
When all else fails, a glass of iced tea is there to beat the heat hehe.

Djagoeng Paviljoen - IDR20,000
Of course you can expect to find Indonesian food here. For the appetizer, we shared a plate of sweet corn. I found the seasoning addictive!

Ajam Goreng Paviljoen - IDR21,000
The chicken skin revealed a chunk of tender and juicy meat within. However, the overall taste of this dish was pretty normal, nothing special with the marination.

Overall, Paviljoen has a reminiscent yet cozy atmosphere. I love that they were also playing old Indonesian songs in the background haha. The staffs were friendly and the service was rather quick, just perfect for our office lunch break. Perhaps they can improve more on the variety of menu, and would be better if the food were served in traditional plates or bowl to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Anyway, the food was okay and prices were reasonable as well. Will definitely revisit!
