Random Eats: January - March 2019

Item: Choc Dip - IDR10,000
Location: Salsa Desserts & Finger Bites (Icon Mall, Gresik)
The crackly layer of chocolate made a good combination to the smooth vanilla soft-serve. Both elements were not too sweet, so overall it was an enjoyable dessert.

Item: Frozen Yogurt - IDR38,500
Location: Yogen Fruz (Icon Mall, Gresik)
After its disappearance in Surabaya, I finally found Yogen Fruz in Gresik. I had mixed blueberry and strawberry yogurt, which was made of real fruits blended with yogurt. The froyo flavors were not very distinctive and rather bland. The price ain't cheap too.

Item: Roasted Chicken Rice - IDR41,000
Location: Pasarame (Pakuwon Mall, Surabaya)
The chicken was succulent and flavorful especially when eaten with ginger sauce. If only there were more chicken skin haha.

Item: Breakfast Burrito - IDR78,000
Location: Toby's Estate (Tunjungan Plaza 5, Surabaya)
It is rolled-up scrambled eggs with sausage, cheese, tomatoes and chipotle mayo served with potato chips. The dish was truly substantial although I felt it was a tad overpriced.

Item: Toby's Caesar - IDR78,000
Location: Toby's Estate (Tunjungan Plaza 5, Surabaya)
On the menu, it was stated that the salad had beef bacon in it, but in fact there was none. I requested to have the dressing on the side, and I felt they could be more generous with the dressing (maybe because the salad was huge in portion so the dressing was insufficient). It turned jelat after a while due to the amount of grated parmesan used. Just look at those cheese flakes!

Item: Roche Puff - IDR13,000
Location: Pluche (Pakuwon Trade Centre, Surabaya)
It is puff pastry with Nutella cream and choco balls filling. The puff was freshly baked, airy and crispy outside, filled with creamy filling that oozed out with every bite. Such guilty pleasure!

Item: Chicken Teriyaki Ramen - IDR33,000
Location: Ichiban Sushi (Surabaya Town Square, Surabaya)
The overall dish was so so, but I like the soup. The chicken teriyaki was meh - it was soggy and lacking flavor.

Item: Fish and Chips - IDR65,000
Location: Caturra Espresso (Jl. Anjasmoro, Surabaya)
The dish looked quite promising but the meat texture was rather dry. Coated with thin yet crispy batter, the fish went well with the tartar sauce.

Item: Salted Egg Chicken on Aromatic Rice - IDR55,000
Location: Caturra Espresso (Jl. Anjasmoro, Surabaya)
As you can see in the pic, not the whole chicken was covered with salted egg sauce. There was a fair amount of chicken in this dish, but since the sauce was too little I felt like eating rice with fried chicken only.

Item: Lean Vietnamese Beef Pho - IDR39,000
Location: Eatez Online Catering, Surabaya
It was my first time trying out Eatez’s healthy menu. The beef was tender but under-seasoned. The broth tasted weird too. Next time I will just stick to their regular menus.

Item: Bakso Campur - IDR20,000
Location: Bakso Pak Djo (Praxis, Surabaya)
The texture of meatballs was chewy and smooth. The siomay and gorengan were decent. The meatball soup tasted too 'MSG', but nevertheless it was still okay.

Item: Roti Bakar K2 Half Nougat Meises - IDR24,000
Location: Kedai Koempoel Kontjo (Praxis, Surabaya)
The nougat (crushed caramelized peanut) and chocolate sprinkles were generous. The bread was just typical bread loaf which was toasted perfectly. Good for an afternoon snack.

Item: Es Soeger Boeger - IDR15,000
Location: Kedai Koempoel Kontjo (Praxis, Surabaya)
It is iced fresh milk with palm sugar and Marie Regal biscuit bits. At first it tasted good like caramel milk, but eventually it became jelat after a while.
