Space Coffee Roastery, Yogyakarta

The first thing I did when I arrived in Jogja was searching for coffee. Thanks to Google, I was brought to an unpretentious spot named Space Coffee Roastery. You heard it right. It is not a fancy coffee shop with spacious and bright interior, but it is a coffee roastery: a place where coffee beans are roasted, processed and brewed.

What I like about this place is the fact that it is hidden from the crowd (it is tucked away on an alley). Being a coffee roastery, it has a roasting machine (duh) and a slow bar inside. If you want to enjoy your coffee in-house, there are a few seats in the 'yard'.

It may not be a very comfortable place to be in though. What strikes out from this place is the lingering aroma of coffee, which makes every coffee enthusiast want to stay longer. Space does not do food - all they have is cookies, which I think is outsourced.

Iced White - IDR25,000
The iced white was a great way to cool down. It had a hint of sourness, light and not too milky. An easy drink overall.

Kopi Susu Kelapa - IDR20,000
The taste of coconut was barely noticeable. Instead, the taste of palm sugar was dominant. Ain't a fan of this drink, sorry.

All in all, Space is a good place to visit whether you are a newbie or an expert in coffee. As it is not a cafe, the service is completely self-service. Ordering, payment, and collection is all done over the slow bar counter. The staffs master their product well - they are able to describe each available coffee bean as well as to make recommendations to a coffee noob like me. I'm definitely looking forward to going back there for a cup of coffee on my next Jogja trip.
