Caturra Espresso, Surabaya
Hey Surabayans, have you ever heard of Monopole Coffee Lab? Caturra Espresso is a coffee shop established by the people behind Monopole. It is located on Anjasmoro Street, sharing the same building with DMP Music - if you know Jl. Tidar or Jl. Kedungdoro, you are close enough to the place. Frankly speaking, I'm not familiar with this area as it is not somewhere I normally go, neither this area has anything nice to chill (now they have got Caturra duh). As a specialty coffee shop, Caturra pays big attention to its coffee. It is stated in their website that every cup of coffee is produced using the latest coffee makers.
The inside of Caturra is pretty huge with centrally-located counter. They have outdoor space as well. The interior comes in monochrome color, looking simple yet classy. I always love cafes with big window glass, allowing sunlight to come in and naturally light my photos. The atmosphere is out of the country - I felt like being in some hipster cafes in Singapore or Melbourne haha.
Latte - IDR32,000
How could you miss out their coffee? Caturra and Monopole use the coffee beans from the same supplier with similar brewing method. My latte had nice body and it was not too acidic. I'm no coffee connoisseur, but it was a safe choice to me.

Iced Caramel Latte - IDR36,000
No complain for this, it was adequately sweet and refreshing.

Caturra Drumstick - IDR40,000
I think it is a good deal as you get around 10 pieces of drumstick plus fries for IDR40,000. The chickens were served tulip-style and drenched in unique-tasting homemade sauce. It is like a blend of sweet, sour, savory and spicy flavors.

Banana Muffin Crumble - IDR18,000
What is the point of serving the small muffin on such big plate? Haha anyway, this muffin was quite a letdown since it was dry, but the banana flavor was rich.

I could see Caturra's true passion for coffee reflected in the cup. Well, the price is pretty high for Surabaya standard, I must say (expect to spend a minimum of IDR100,000 if you order one main course and coffee). The service was generally okay, but there was one moment where all the servers gathered in a corner and looked at us taking pictures with DSLR, which we thought was awkward haha.
