De Bun, Surabaya

Situated on Jl. Biliton, De Bun is actually a part of the famous Igor's Pastry. It occupies a relatively big space with plenty of standing room to spare (there will be no awkward back of chair's bump haha). As the name suggests, De Bun does offer various kind of burger and sandwich in the menu, plus a few all-day brunch items.

Interestingly, every dining table is equipped with not just one or two, but four kinds of Heinz sauce (Korean chili, Indonesian chili, Mexican chili and tomato ketchup). Technically these sauces are unlimited since they are available on all tables right? Apparently, that time De Bun was having a collaboration with Heinz (as posted on De Bun's IG), so that kinda explained the feature.

Iced Lemon Tea
I forgot to ask them to serve the sugar separately because apparently it turned out too sweet. The intensity of the tea could be stronger too.

Sweeping Thaiger - IDR48,000
This colorful bowl consists of beef tenderloin, mixed salad, young papaya, young mango, Thai sauce, peanuts, and garlic chips. Health freaks, you are in the safe hands. It was truly a bowl full of of flavors and textures that don't require you to dig deep to enjoy.

Cow Says Cheese - IDR68,000
Ordered this since I saw almost every table ordered their burger. It was the classic: charcoal buns, Wagyu beef patty, French wild mushrooms, cheese, truffle cream, tomatoes and iceberg lettuce for health measures. There was no hint of truffle at all, which was kinda disappointing. The texture of the so-called Wagyu beef patty was slightly mushy but it was succulent and beefy. Really, the word 'Wagyu' is gimmicky - not sure if it was a real one or not, but truth be told you don't really need gimmick when the element does its job well. To make the dish more substantial, it also came with fries and a few onion rings which had a light, flaky batter. The fries were also quite thick and gently salted. Nothing too fancy but it was not mediocre either. Also, I never really like burgers that are designed too big for the mouth, however, De Bun's version is made to be eaten with cutlery and you can request them to cut it into 2 or 4 for your convenience.

Overall, my experience at De Bun was neither disappointing nor impressive. While the burger I had was well-executed, they probably needed to add more variety to the menu, so as not to lose out to other cafes in the area.
