Yoi Kona, Surabaya

A few things were born during this pandemic. Every time I hear of a business opening, I cannot help but give them a round of applause for taking a leap of faith and embark on their new venture during the time of uncertainties. Yoi Kona is one of those new cafes that opened earlier this month, adding a new option to Rungkut area. Its opening hours start from 6.30am, making it a great stop for cyclists after what we call 'Sunmori' aka Sunday morning ride.

The front part of Yoi Kona boasts woody and clean minimalist look that resembles the cafe space in Tokyo. It also has open space area at level two with a view of the main road. "Surabaya rasa Tokyo check!", as Instagrammers would say.

Cold Konna Kohi - IDR18,000
The coffee tasted too acidic for me, not sure if there was a fault in the roasting method or there could be another factor to point out. It just did not hit the spot.

Cold Highball Coffee - IDR18,000
The staff described this as a milder drink compared to Konna Kohi. Yep, it was indeed mild to the point that I almost could not detect any trace of coffee. Btw the drink was actually pre-made - it was taken out straight from the chiller and given to us upon order.

As a newcomer, Yoi Kona has the potential to fly in Surabaya's cafe scene, but they really need to improve on their coffee. Overall it is an okay cafe, definitely not the best one as proclaimed by other foodies. You may also want to refrain from coming on Sunday morning if you do not want to witness a place full of people gathering in bike attire.
