Prego, Surabaya

Ever thought of visiting a restaurant with aesthetic library? Because to some, happiness can simply mean a cup of coffee with a good book. Rejoice peeps, such place actually does exist in Surabaya.

Prego is a restaurant in Darmo Permai that primarily serves Italian food. The place also functions as a library which features bookshelves and magazine racks as key elements of the interior decoration. The place was rather quiet when we dined in, so I thought it could be a good spot for some personal reading time.

Interestingly, most of the books I saw were written in Korean haha

Chamomile - IDR25,000

Normal Twinings Chamomile tea, no further comment needed.

Ice Lemon Tea - IDR28,000

A nice and refreshing glass of iced lemon tea to quench my thirst.

Ice Lychee Tea - IDR28,000

The lychee was generous, there were about 3 pieces inside.

Nasi Goreng - IDR60,000

Don't you think this nasi goreng is exorbitantly priced considering you can make it at home? It was one-dimensional and rather bland. If you are used to nasi goreng abang-abang (the street-cart one), it will take some time to appreciate Prego's nasi goreng.

Penne "alla Calabrese" - IDR80,000

The dish was just decent, not exceptional in taste. The sauce was more sweet than tomato-ey, but the amount of melted cheese given was satisfying.

Margherita Pizza + Extra Rucola - IDR105,000

The bright looking pizza was satisfying enough. The thin crust was crispy and tomato sauce was tasty with good level of tanginess.

I quite like the 'serious yet laid-back' vibe of Prego, which is kinda unique as compared to many other restaurants in town. The spaciousness of the place, ample daylight, and homely touches in decor all helped contribute to this easygoing ambiance. It is seriously a gem and I do think it deserves more publicity!
