Gachi Korean Cuisine, Surabaya

Located on Jl. Kertajaya Indah (right next to Shao Kao), Gachi Korean Cuisine is an edgy looking Korean bistro that has recently opened for public. Due to the hype, it was full house when we came there at 6.30pm (glad we'd made a reservation in advance). The place looks fancy with vibrant neon signs (even the toilet is Instagrammable!), but at the same time also looks homey with the neutral and woody tones used for the finishing.

Left: Iced Mochaccino - IDR35,000
The drink gave just the right amount of sweetness and bitterness.

Right: Matcha Latte - IDR45,000
Wasn't too impressed with the matcha latte as I found it too watery. It's definitely something I will skip the next time I'm here.

Boneless Soy Garlic Chicken - IDR65,000
The chickens were pretty well-sized here; the serving was manageable to be shared between two. The boneless chicken was crispy, flavorful and the seasoning really hit the spot! Each bite was bursting with the savory-sweetness from the soy garlic coating. It retained its crispiness hours later, even with the sauce sticking on. It would be a perfect treat for your K-drama marathons. The potato wedges though, left a rather greasy aftertaste, but washing it down with water should help.

Beef Sundubu Jjigae - IDR69,000
I loveee Korean stews, they are always enjoyable and warming to eat in both hot and cold weather. Arriving bubbling hot, the jjigae has leeks, beef slices, raw egg and tofu inside. The non-spicy broth tasted really comforting, perfect to eat along with steamed white rice. I personally think that for the price, the soup should be filled to the brim hehe. I would also appreciate it more if they added kimchi to the soup or at least provided a side portion of it. Overall, it was nice but somehow did not exactly satisfy due to the lack of kimchi.

Milk Pudding - IDR35,000
For the dessert, we had this silky smooth milk pudding with brown sugar syrup. While some parts were clotted, the puding had a lingering creaminess which I found enjoyable.

All in all, Gachi offers a decent take on Korean food, and its reasonable pricing is definitely another draw. Sadly, they did not serve us banchan, which was really unfortunate considering its title as a Korean eatery. Already asked the staffs several times, but they kept telling us to wait since the place was busy (I thought this excuse is non-sense as banchan should always be ready to serve as soon as orders are taken). But at least, now we easties finally have a legit place to satisfy our fried chicken cravings!
