Happy Lemon, Surabaya

When life gives you lemon, make bubble drink. Just like the name suggests, Happy Lemon specializes in lemon-based drinks made with real lemon squeeze. As a self-professed bubble tea lover, I gotta admit that the opening of new bubble tea place always excites me. Not only that, it stands out with other specialties like cheese tea and bubble waffle.

Founded in Shanghai in 2006, Happy Lemon is different from the other bubble tea outlets as they serve an array of 'lemony' drinks. it focuses more on healthy drinking, with its authentic and freshly brewed tea, and other add ons like nata de coco and lemon slices (definitely healthier than KOI).

Left: Oolong Tea Salted Cheese (regular size) - IDR33,000

Salted cheese foam is a pretty popular BBT topping nowadays and almost all BBT have it. Happy Lemon's salted cheese turned out great, putting itself to my runner-up after Cheskee. The balance of salty, cheesy and tea flavors was delicate, while the foam itself gave the drink that extra punch. I think adding salted cheese foam is a genius thing, especially for those who dislike strong tea aftertaste.

Right: Matcha Latte Salted Cheese (regular size) - IDR35,000

The matcha latte drink was well-executed too, the marriage of matcha and creamy salted cheese foam worked well. No need to stir the drink, just sip the drink and let the foam soak in through your lip. Side note, I found the Matcha Latte drink became rather diluted when left out for some time - you may want to request for less ice so the matcha will remain at good concentration.

Overall, Happy Lemon is a good addition to BBT places in Surabaya. Price wise, it does not differ much from most big BBT chains - still considered pricey for just a cup of drink and definitely not something I would get on a regular basis lol.
