Sansekerta, Surabaya
I finally got to do a proper review of Indonesian restaurant after ages (hyperbolically speaking). This time round, my family and I had dinner at Sansekerta Indonesian Restaurant. Taking space next to Calibre Coffee Roasters, Sansekerta brings quite a diverse range of Indonesian comfort food in a modern setting. Although the venue may look small from outside, it can actually host a large number of patron, making it suitable for group meals with colleagues or family.
Ice Tea - IDR12,000
Normal iced tea with right level of sweetness.
Asem Jawa - IDR35,000
This is the order of my health-conscious dad. Did not try it since I disliked all sorts of jamu lol. Fyi, all bottled jamu-s here are supplied by Suwe Ora Jamu.
Sup Asem-Asem Iga Sapi - IDR63,000
The broth was comforting and hearty. It tasted like sup buntut, but sourer. Squeeze a bit of lime to enhance the flavor and give it a different punch.

Gurami Golden Egg Floss - IDR82,000
All of us got wow-ed when the fish was being served. THE PORTION IS HUGE, MIND YOU. It was a whole freshwater gurami fish with plenty of egg floss on top. The fish was fried to golden brown with crunchy skin and moist meat. It is served with sambal kecap, a mixture of sweet soy sauce and chopped chili.
Kepiting Gembos Telor Asin - IDR65,000
The soft-shell crab with salted egg sauce was damn good too. Tell you what, I might be a little biased here coz I'm an avid salted egg fan.
Es Teler - IDR32,000
This is a blend of shaved ice, young coconut flesh, jackfruit, avocado, sago, nata de coco, coconut cream, syrup, and condensed milk. It did not excite me though (except the young coconut flesh that looked like rose) - I had tasted better es teler at much more reasonable price.

I would recommend Sansekerta for group gatherings as most items are best shared. If you are hosting a foreigner here, this is the place that will impress them with the richness of Indonesian food. Prices are on the steep side but still reasonable for the quality. Service was courteous and our orders came out relatively quick.
