[Closed] Slappy Cakes, Singapore
After playing in Adventure Cove since morning, my friends and I were looking for somewhere to eat casually. We saw Slappy Cakes next to Universal Studios and we decided to give it a try. Slappy Cakes is an American restaurant known for their DIY-style pancake. Here, the creativity is all yours. Basically, there is a cooking pan on every table. It comes in this squeeze-bottle for easy decoration on the hot plate. We also got some toppings, namely, lavender honey, crispy bacon and toasted almonds. You can pick your preferred batter (flavors available are wholegrain, buttermilk, pandan, chocolate and peanut butter). The batter comes in a squeeze-able plastic bottle for easy cooking. You can also add extra fixings for your pancake, such as fruit jam, fresh fruits, chocolate, and even savory items like bacon and mushrooms.
Actually we wanted to have chocolate and buttermilk batter, but the buttermilk one was out of stock, so we change the buttermilk to peanut butter. For 4 people, we had 2 chocolate and 1 peanut butter in total. A 8oz bottle of batter costs $8.50. We added mango jam and hazelnut spread as toppings, costing $2 and $3 respectively. We were given butter and maple syrup (which my friends used excessively -_-) after the staff had prepared the griddle for us. One of my friends also ordered Carbonara Spaghetti ($14) for himself, but I didn't try it as I was too engrossed with my pancake.
How to enjoy the pancakes? Firstly, squeeze some batter onto the griddle and add the toppings go with it. The toppings can be added while cooking or after the pancake has been cooked, although it is advisable to have it with the cooked pancake for better enjoyment. Don't forget to flip your pancake!
It was my first DIY pancake making experience and I love it! Slappy Cakes is not only perfect for family outing, but it is also a fun place to gather with your friends and show each other's crazy ideas on the griddle haha. The pancake itself was not bad - it was fluffy and I could taste the chocolate and peanut butter in it. The DIY pancake may not filling enough (because you have to share it), but I guess we all pay for the experience.
